SEYMOUR -- Fed up with vandals defacing Legion Pool park, Seymour Land Trust Vice President Alex Danka vowed this week to show no leniency the next time someone damaged the property.

He didn't have to wait long.

On Thursday, two juveniles were arrested after police said they scrawled a racial slur on the park's covered bridge. Danka insisted on pressing charges.

"Hats off to the Seymour police," Danka said.

According to police Lt. Paul Satkowski, the suspects were arrested Thursday afternoon after a Land Trust member fishing at the park spotted kids around 2 THOMASWYLDE Replica Handbags p.m. writing with a blue marker on the covered bridge. Police responded and followed them through the woods to a convenience store, where the suspects were found with a blue marker on the ground next to them.

Police determined they were responsible for causing damage to Legion Pool.

A 15-year-old male from Seymour was arrested for third-degree criminal mischief and possession of Christian Bernard drug paraphernalia. A 14-year- old male from Seymour was charged with conspiracy to commit third- degree criminal mischief and possession of marijuana. They were released on a written promise to appear.

Police continue to investigate whether they are responsible for damage that occurred at Legion Pool this past week.

Danka said he was thankful to the Land Trust member for alerting him and the police.

"We need people to be our eyes and ears when we can't be there," Danka. "The police can't be everywhere at all times, but we are so thankful to them."

This latest incident Juicy comes just three days after vandals damaged the fish food vending machine at Legion Pool, stealing the money inside; threw debris in the pond, bent signs and broke several stone steps and benches with memorial plaques on them, resulting in about $1,500 worth of damage.

Danka said he hopes anyone caught would be "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and would face a judge" for their behavior. Danka said a judge would decide the punishment to fit the crime this time, but he'd like to give the vandals paintbrushes and make them paint over their handiwork during the Land Trust's Earth Day cleanup April 25.

Meanwhile, late Thursday Land Trust President Frank Conroy said an unnamed person will donate a complete security system. The system will cover Chatfield Park and the adjacent Land Trust property.

Danka said he's hopeful the camera, which he said he could monitor 24/7 from his home, will be a deterrent for anyone else thinking of trashing the park.

Some citizens never miss voting on a ballot, but elections are few and far between. In the the United States, where free enterprise reigns supreme, we vote mostly with our money. Americans make hundreds of millions of decisions each day when they spend their cash, and those decisions determine winners and losers.

Spending decisions determine who gets rich selling gum, beer, or service. Those who succeed selling goods and services often sway who wins public office, or which laws most legilsators will support. Money talks.

Those who sell gum - or cereal, or running shoes, or energy drinks and such - win our business by appealing to our values, emotions and sensibilities. In the hyper-competitive world of commerce, it's not enough to have the best running shoe. To win consumers, the tag heuer replica message must be conveyed by someone we love and trust - someone of character who has earned our respect. It's a good system. It rewards good behavior, self-control, and morality and reduces desires for government force. Want to sell shoes and get wealthy? Want to be the person replica rolex who the shoemaker pays to build a brand? If so, then work hard earning and protecting a strong reputation. If you're talented and fortunate enough to accomplish this - achieving a status that causes people to pay millions for your endorsement - hold on to it for dear life. Mind your Ps and Qs. Don't pick up the wrong fork. Whatever you do, don't break contracts. If you do, your ability to sell shoes will diminish greatly.

The system rewarded Tiger Woods for years. Enriching Woods financially, the market worked like a charm. He was a minority from an average American background who perfected his golf skills and projected an upstanding image so rare it had a billion dollars in value. Character was his product. By comparison, golf paid minimum wage.

Then Woods cheated on his wife. His sponsors will, eventually, drop him like a brick. If they don't, they will suffer.

What does marital infidelity have to do with selling shoes? Everything. Woods made riches on endorsements that were valuable only because of the earned trust. Golf results don't sell, trust sells. All of it is gone. A man or woman caught betraying a child and serially breaking the most sacred contract of all - the promise to a spouse - can probably never be trusted as before. That's why, like it or not, the market may punish Tiger Woods, at a substantial cost to him, for the rest of his life. - Wayne Laugesen, editorial page editor, for the editorial board.
